Couples Massage
A couples massage refers to the booking format, not a specific massage technique. Before reserving, it’s important to determine whether both people will be massaged at the same time or if they will only share part of the visit together. This avoids misunderstandings about the shared experience.
Check the location and timing
Ask if two therapists will be working and if both massages will start at the same time. Clarify whether the room is shared or private. If being together is important, express this preference before selecting a specific booking time.
Find out separately the duration of the massage allotted to each person. The total visit time can include consultation, changing clothes, and preparation. If you select services of different durations, discuss where the person who finishes earlier will wait.
Individual service choices
Specify whether you want the same or different services. A suitable choice for one person does not automatically apply to the other. Ask what techniques the therapists can perform at that time and whether combinations are possible in the shared room.
Discuss individually the desired intensity and areas to exclude. One person’s word like “stronger” does not define the other’s preference. Agree beforehand on how to communicate any desired changes or stopping the treatment.
Privacy and communication
Inquire about changing facilities, draping, and the possibility to discuss personal matters separately. A joint booking does not require sharing all personal information with the accompanying person. If you want a private conversation, mention this when booking.
During the massage, you can talk with your therapist even if the other person is resting quietly. Do not stay silent about discomfort just to avoid disturbing the shared atmosphere. Feel free to ask for intensity, position changes, or to pause the procedure if you wish.
Service suitability
NCCIH advises consulting a healthcare professional if unsure about massage suitability. Massage should not delay medical consultation. Also, consider the therapist’s training and experience. The format of booking for two does not change the need for individual discussion of these matters.
Inform about relevant restrictions and previous adverse reactions before the session. If the service will not be provided to one person, clarify how this affects the other’s booking and price. Knowing this organizational detail before payment is useful.
Booking details and completion
Check whether the price is for two people or just one, and exactly what is included. If you want additional relaxation time or other SPA services, book them explicitly. A massage booking alone does not include these.
Ask what to bring and how early to arrive. At the end, discuss your experience with the therapist and request specific guidance if needed. Plan the next visit according to both persons’ preferences, timing, and chosen service scope.
